The last line of my book cover says ‘I would never be happy anywhere, unless I found inner peace’. Talking with another artist she asks, ‘did you eventually find yourself?’ My reply, ‘We are always finding ourselves. That is the riddle to life. Once we accept that we know nothing and release expectations there we find peace. There is this big lie, that there is a point of undisturbed joy, where the hardship can be left behind. The reality is that life is a struggle, but it is in learning to embrace these moments that we can cultivate happiness’.
Her reply, ‘Very true. I notice though that for artists like us, finding ourselves it’s a big struggle. I think it’s because we spend so much time studying what the masters before us have done that we lose ourselves.’ My reply, ‘that and most of us are manic depressives, trying to ride the waves between sanity and insanity’. She messages back ‘LOL that’s hilariously true’.
From Alexander McQueen to Yves Saint Laurent there was this madness that was only released through their creative works. But if left unchecked or overstimulated with exhaustion which happens in the fashion industry, they fell apart. Add an emotional trauma then disaster is waiting just around the corner. If we are able to indulge in a concoction of creativity, nature and love we are able to exist in harmony with the world and ourselves.
